Jason Thompson: November, 2000
Hello
to all. First off, I'd like to thank Fufkin.com for giving
me this opportunity to join and share my music addiction with
you all. I had just split from a big corporate site the other
day as a music critic/reviewer and happened across Fufkin.
What can I say? It seemed like the best place for me to be.
After a brief exchange of e-mails and discussing the woes
of writing for a community that doesn't give a damn for good
music, only what's being spoon fed on MTV and Top 40 radio,
and learning about what Fufkin.com is based on, I jumped at
the chance to contribute my own reviews to the site.
I look forward to sharing my opinions and knowledge with everyone
involved here. It will certainly be nice to be a part of a
music-based site that actually cares about what it contains.
To be able to champion such acts as The Beatles, Big Star,
Velvet Underground, Raspberries, Cheap Trick, and all those
others I love so much and not feel like I have to put up an
automatic defense against a group of fourteen year olds telling
me I suck because I can't stand Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Eminem,
that what I listen to isn't "real rock and roll" will be extremely
nice. Not that I can't put up a fight; I can. But having been
bombarded with review after review of groups like those at
my former location that were worded with such drivel as "Korn
rawks! Tracks 1-4 are especially great!" it'll be nice to
be in a community of people who can understand music minus
the music videos that get played 24/7 to a group who feels
that "Break Stuff" is a really rebellious tune.
So it goes. I am very opinionated about the stuff I do and
do not like. A fellow reviewer at my former location told
me she never really cared for The Beatles and found their
solo works much more enjoyable than anything the band put
together as a collective. Then she added, "People get so irate
with me about that, I don't understand why." Feh. I don't
understand why anyone would pick McCartney's Wild Life over
any Beatles album, but hey, that's just me. As I said, I look
forward to being here and adding to the site in any ways I
can. Thanks again to Fufkin.com for welcoming me into what
looks like a real music fans' site. I'm ready if you are.
